Scenographic Interior: Plumbing Transformation

What is code and standards are reimagined – considered not as a system for hidden erasure, but as a ubiquitous, experiential presence in the daily life of buildings?

Domestic Experience

Why might consider the potential impacts of reimagining integrated plumbing by introducing  speculative housing typologies. Untethering spaces from standardization, the plumbing pipes are free flowing and creating acoustic partitions as a new way of dividing space softly. Three sound sources are deployed in these reconceived domestic interiors:

grey water, clean water, and air ducts in HVAC systems.

Space from Those We Love

contends that the private sounds of strangers can be more soothing than the contentious presence of those closest to us. Sounds of disembodied strangers are integrated into the architecture as a way to create soft boundaries.

Share space- exuberant sound happened- give privacy to resting area , White noise block resting area

Single Together

builds on the accelerated trends of new and intentional family formation, where individual cohabit spaces once reserved for the biological family unit.

Sound intrusion- company- white noise with L shape for privacy but slightly intrude by sounds from gape between L shape wall (share space in between)

Senior Coalition

Imagines elders creating a space of collective self-care, in opposition to institutionalized senior housing.

Sound intrusion- safety- know what happening- double straight wall

Gossip Drama

accepts that living alone needs additional stimulation.

Curve wall- reflection- sound travel all over – hear drama
